On Thursday, Ohio State released the number of students enrolled in the university, once again securing our ranking as the largest school in the country.

But is that what we should be proud of?

We paired the results with a story on the other universities OSU uses as benchmarks to help guide decisions regarding some of the school's academic plans and strategies.

OSU even goes as far as referring to these schools as "aspirational peers."

However, seven out of the nine schools OSU seeks to emulate are ranked ahead of the university, according to U.S. News and World Report's 2008 list of America's best colleges.

OSU has long lived for bragging rights. The biggest university, the best and brightest freshmen every year, the biggest recreational center on the face of the globe, the best football team to breathe oxygen and let us not forget "The Best Damn Band In The Land."

But what has been lost in the shuffle in favor of these titles?

Do we have the best professors, the best funding, the best retention rate, the best programs, the best leadership?

Is OSU close to reaching its full potential in order for us to not only wear the title of the biggest university in the country on our scarlet and gray chest? If not, how far do we have to go? While E.
